Question:Why did Dr. Harper choose SPF 18 for Protect?Answer:SPF is the Sun Protection Factor that sunscreens contain. Each SPF level provides 20 minutes of extra sun protection when you are exposed to the sun. Therefore, a SPF of 18 means that you should multiply 20 minutes x 18, which equals 360 minutes or 6 hours of protection. Do not forget that ALL sunscreens should be reapplied every 3-4 hours to ensure maximum effectiveness - ALL meaning every company's product. When looking at products with a higher SPF, such as 30, consider that these claims can often be a marketing ploy. Regardless, to obtain a higher SPF always requires the addition of chemical sunscreens, which are not philosophically consistent with our mission.
