Question:What is the SPF in Protect and how often should Protect be applied?Answer:The SPF rating on Protect is an 18. SPF is a measure of the additional amount of time that a person can stay in the sun and not get sunburned. For instance, if you have a very fair skin that burns after 30 minutes in the sun, for each SPF that is added to the ingredient, you will be able to spend an additional 20 minutes in the sun. If you use a sunscreen, such as Protect, that has an SPF of 18, you can spend an additional 18 x 20 or 360 minutes in the sun, which is six hours. Protect should be applied using the specific recommendations on the back of the bottle, as the application of the product determines how well the product will perform. One of the things that will negatively affect a SPF rating is when people excessively rub the product into the skin, which actually lowers the sun protection of the product. This is true for all sunscreens, not just Protect! We recommend that when you apply Protect, you leave a very thin coating of the product on the skin. Allow that to dry, and then do one final rub down of the product into the skin. You will see the product disappear into the skin when applied in this way and create maximum protection. You should apply Protect 30 minutes prior to sun exposure, just as you should with all sunscreens. It should be reapplied after swimming, excessive sweating or every 4 hours. Once again this is true for every sunscreen! Products that do not include these explicit directions about how to apply sunscreen to get maximum effectiveness of their product are not doing the consumer a favor. We are a company dedicated to education! We want people to get it right!
