TAMPA REPUBLICAN CLUB HOSTS FLAG DAY CELEBRATION AND ANNOUNCES
DEBORAH COX-ROUSH AS ELECTED OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR
TAMPA, FL - On June 14, the Tampa Republican Club hosted their Annual Flag Day Party at the home of April and Gordon Schiff on Davis Islands, where the club honored the American Flag. Flag Day was first celebrated 125 years ago on June 14, 1885.
"The “Stars and Stripes”, the official national symbol of the United States was authorized by Congress on June 14, 1777. Over the course of our nation’s history, our flag has served as a source of national pride, inspiring Francis Scott Key to write our national anthem, strengthening the resolve of the men at Iwo Jima, stirring the far reaches of our imaginations when Neil Armstrong planted our flag on the Moon, and reassuring our nation in the aftermath of the 9/11 Attacks," said Jason Rodriguez. "Because the freedoms and liberty that our flag stands for continue to be challenged by forces outside our nation and from within, we must continue to fight to defend our nation’s freedom, our nation’s liberty and our nation’s Flag."
Rep. Rachel Burgin, District 56, led the gathering in the Pledge of Allegiance. In addition to celebrating Flag Day, the Tampa Republican Club also presented the Elected Official of the Year Award to Vice-Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida and Chairman of the Hillsborough County Republican Party, Deborah Cox-Roush.
"Chairman Cox-Roush's steadfast leadership and resolve was instrumental in restoring order to our state party. Additionally, Cox-Roush has worked tirelessly to build our local party with an eye toward informing the electorate and helping qualified Republicans become elected to local, state, and national positions."
Several elected officials and candidates for office attended the event, including Sen. Victor Crist, Rep. Faye Culp, Rep. Rachel Burgin, Former Senator Jack Latvala, Former Rep. Deb Tamargo, Former Rep. Sandy Murman, Commissioners Ken Hagan and Rose Ferlita, School Board Member Candy Olson, Tony Buntyn, candidate for U.S. Congress District 11, Irene Guy, candidate for State Representative, District 47, Kevin Wright, candidate for State Representative, District 61, Terry Kemple, candidate for School Board, Joe Citro, candidate for Tampa City Council, and Guido Maniscalco, candidate for Tampa City Council.
